Tips for Recruiting in this Competitive Market

Having the best team starts with recruiting the best individuals.  The key success factors Strategix employs when recruiting for practices just like yours includes:

·      Hire SMART people as it is too hard to train an idiot.  Smart people can learn anything.

·      Hire HAPPY people as you don’t have time to fix the problems everything else in their life has created.

·      Hire for a CULTURE fit.  Every team has a culture, and you need to learn what it ‘actually’ is and what you want it to be.  Misalignment with personal values will increase turn over.

Once you have your team in place, turn them into a loyal team excited to service your patients.  Strategix Leadership training includes the below team-based focuses:

·      The leadership required to build a team cannot be captured in a short newsletter, but the one undeniable element is the importance of everyone sharing a common GOAL.

·      Fire Quickly.  Yup, that seems like a negative but once you have given someone all the support and encouragement to be successful and know it is not working out … the rest of your staff will genuinely appreciate and respond positively to the change.

OrthoBite: Always say goodbye with nothing but dignity and respect.  Everyone is watching.

“Nothing will ruin a good employee fasterthan watching you tolerate a bad one. Address all performance issues as timely as possible”.  RMW

·      Celebrate wins as a team and don’t be cheap about it.  Do things people will appreciate.

·      Show Recognition and appreciation.

·      Handwritten notes have more impact on a team member than any other gesture.

·      Showing mutual respect.

·      Greeting with a good morning and a thank you at the end of the day.

·      Foster an environment for opportunities and growth.

·      Foster a positive work environment.

·      Be a supportive leader.

·      Flexibility.  The days of taking time off when you are away is no longer.  People will walk out.  Allow them to have some flexibility and balance with their own life.

We are in a profession experiencing staff shortages. Not sure where everyone went in the past three years, not to mention the entitlement that comes along with the candidates looking for a position.  The past few years, our consulting business has been dealing with the dynamics of employing the new generation of team members which is a challenge.  An entire division in our company was built (Strategix Recruiting) https://www.strategix-ltd.com/programs/strategix-recruiting to help offices like yours. We need to accept this change and manage expectations.  Understanding how you as leaders can inspire them to generate the results for the business to be successful is key!
