Top Ten Tips from Strategix

Operating a successful Dental Practice depends not only on learning better and faster; it also depends on the consistent application of learning, combined with creativity and flexibility. All areas of your practice must continually be addressed in order to maintain a competitive advantage. The following list provides an overview of what is required to achieve Practice Prosperity:

1. Be Happy

Many people are on an eternal search for more happiness in their lives. We should be careful though to not rely on anybody or anything to make us happy. Being happy is a choice we make, it’s free for the taking, today.

2. Be a Vibrant Leader

Leadership is about creating the future with and through people. It takes a well-founded vision to create a high performance practice culture where best practices are defined and then consistently replicated. Leadership requires us to lead from the inside out, which means that we need a strong foundation in place to inspire and empower others.

3. Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan

Strategic Planning provides focus for your Dental Practice. It allows you to be proactive in your approach rather than having to react to your circumstances, continually operating in a state of crises management. Among other things, an effective Strategic Plan includes a Marketing Plan and a Client Service Strategy.

4. Have a People-Centric Approach

Dentistry is about people, and the more you take care of all the people you deal with, the happier they will be and the more success and happiness you will experience.

5. Create Balance In Your Life

Live your life in such a way that it honours all the roles you lead, such as: spouse, parent, leader, dentist, boss, friend, etc. The more balance we incorporate into our lives the more happiness, peace and harmony we will enjoy.

6. Work With a Strategist

Those that achieve the greatest successes in life are those that work with experts to help them meet their goals and objectives. World-class athletes and top CEO’s all have someone coaching them to success. Who is helping you?

7. Have Systems In Place

Systems are a series of principles and procedures that are consistently carried out over time until they become habits. Having systems in place minimizes ‘how to’ questions and allows each member of your team to fully concentrate on taking exceptional care of your patients. Also, by having your practice systems in strategic alignment you will save time and make more money.

8. Be Financially Responsible

There are multiple costs involved in running a dental practice. Work with an expert to determine where you are on your road to financial independence and what you need to do to make your goals reality.

9. Measure, Review and Modify Performance

Performance Metrix are a great catalyst for change. When an action is monitored that information can then be assessed and the appropriate changes made. Measurement encourages peak performance, which in turn accelerates growth.

10. Enjoy Practice Prosperity

Success means something different to each one of us. What is your definition of success? Take the time to recognize and celebrate each and every success you and your team experience!

Questions to Ponder

How effectively have you done each of the things described in this article? On a scale of 1 - 10, how would you rate your practice on:

    2. Developing and implementing a Strategic Plan?
    3. Having a people-centric approach?
    4. Multiplying performance by having clearly defined systems?
    5. Building a solid financial foundation?
    6. Measuring results in your practice?
    7. Celebrating success?
